About Counselling

Sessions last 50-60 minutes, usually on a weekly basis unless otherwise agreed in our contract.  The cost is £60 per session.

I am based near Cwmbran, Torfaen but work online meaning I can work with clients across the UK.

Counselling, in my view, is not "one size fits all".  That is why I trained in the integrative style of counselling.  This gave me solid foundations upon which I can tailor the approach needed for each individual client.  The basis of the therapy is the relationship we build between us.  This is why we will initially talk about a contract and set some boundaries. We will work collaboratively with you setting the pace that feels right for you. You will never be expected to step outside of your comfort zone, although we may walk to the edge of the zone and see whether it can be expanded.  We will work together to empower you to make decisions that are right for you.

I can offer psychoeducation to help you to understand why the brain makes us act in particular ways and why our body has particular sensations during stressful times.  We will work together to help you notice your thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations and how these interact.  Often clients come to therapy with a sense of feeling stuck or uneasy.  They notice that the way they have always done things does not help them.  We work together to understand your experience and where particular patterns of coping and ways of behaving have come from.  We can then begin to develop new ways of coping and bring an inner sense of peace.

I particularly enjoy working with people who are parents of younger children and who want to "break the cycle", adult children of emotionally immature parents, people who grew up in dysfunctional or narcissistic families and people who have experienced abuse.
